The use of scales and balances dates back to the era of Ancient Egypt primarily used for trading goods. At that time a simple arm balance on a fulcrum was used to draw contrast between two weights. Today, balance scales are used everywhere around us for multiple uses. They have become more complex and used for multiple tasks like weighing packages for shipping and weighing chemicals in laboratory. The scales have balances differ as they have a single bar with two similar weighing platforms on the both sides of the bar. On one platform, Place a weight of known value while on the other platform, place the object of unknown weight. In order to find exact weight of unknown object you can adjust the weight of the known side. There are three types of balance scales:
- Equal arm balance
It is named equal arm balance because the distance of each bar end from the pivot is equal or similar. The pivot point also called the fulcrum lies exactly in the center of the bar. This shows that fulcrum lies just above the center of gravity and when the platforms are at same levels the balance will be “zero”.
- Unequal arm balance
In this term, the fulcrum is not situated at equidistant level from both platforms. The shorter side holds the object to be weighed whereas the known weights are continuously moved along the arm for the balance to be obtained.
- Spring balance
This balance is made up of a hook at one side with a coiled spring at the other end. The spring balance uses the concept of spring elasticity to measure the object weight. The weight of the weighing object is directly proportional to the stretching distance of the spring.
- Scale Software
The perfect scale software converts your raw weight details into business intelligence thus enabling you to optimize and analyze your working. These scale software’s are especially designed to supply weighing intelligence while working with weighing equipments. The software has the tendency to operate for simple as well as sensitive production management system. To meet the operation needs of clients the scale software packages are Window based with some running on stand-alone computers. One of the software’s called USB Scale Wedge is a convenient and easy to use program. It allows you to input data through any Window application program like Access or Excel.
